What is Coaching?
The Association of Coaching describes coaching as:
‘A solution-focussed, results-orientated and systematic process in which the coach facilitates the enhancement of work performance, life experience, self-directed learning and personal growth of the coachee.’
I describe coaching as a discussion with a coachee whom is guided to think deeply and in new and innovative ways in order to develop their own solutions to problems. I assist people in identifying and learning to harness their strengths through attentive listening and effective questions.
Positive Psychology Coaching
My coaching is rooted on Positive Psychology, a research-based branch of psychology that investigates the “science of happiness” or what drives individuals to thrive in their lives, and how we can apply this in practical ways.
I use the tools of Positive Psychology to enhance your wellbeing, life satisfaction, increase your confidence and develop your passions.
Coaching vs Therapy
Coaching aims to assist you in addressing specific issues or challenges you are currently facing, as well as supporting you in developing solutions to deal with them. Coaches concentrate on establishing a new life path in a solution focused and goal-orientated manner.
Counsellors, on the other hand focus look into emotional resolutions to past problems.
Why do people go to coaches ?
There are a variety of reasons why people decide to begin coaching. For example some people go to coaching if they are stuck in a rut, others go to coaching to adapt a more healthier mindset and others come to manage stress or increase productivity.
Coaching looks different for everyone, we all have our own personalised goals and needs. The purpose of coaching is to assist you in moving ahead towards your goals and to help you thrive at whatever life stage you in.
Coaching Sessions
Coaching sessions typically last 30-60 minutes. Typically the consultation session (free) is conducted online via Zoom or Microsoft teams and subsequent sessions are conducted in an outdoor environment via telephone or in person if you are based in Cavan. You can also choose if you would like to continue coaching sessions online if you prefer.
Coaching sessions are flexible and tailored to you. A one-time 60 minute session my be sufficient in helping you to deal with a specific issue or you may want to commit to a series of sessions to aid you in achieving longer-term objectives and change. Three or six 30-60 minute sessions are typically what coachees choose to do.
